What is Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery?Reconstructive surgery is generally performed for patients who have congenital defects such as, ear malformations, webbed fingers, and a cleft palate or patients who have acquired a deformity including sustained burns, lacerations, broken bones, or any other abnormalities in an accident. The patient may also have a disease or infection that is limiting normal body functioning. The primary purpose for reconstructive surgery is to restore function. Plastic surgery is typically voluntary and its primary purpose is to enhance appearance.
What should I expect at my Initial Evaluation with a Plastic/Reconstructive Surgeon?
During your initial evaluation, you will meet with your plastic or reconstructive surgeon so you can explain your situation and ask questions. The surgeon will then review your medical history and ask you questions in order to understand your condition, goals, and/or concerns. The surgeon will inform you all about the procedure that you are considering.
